its a good RO unit but id spend that little bit more and get the 6 Stage version that little bit of extra cleaning makes all the difference

your marine life will appreciate it

4 stage RO/DI is fine IMO. Thats what I use.

very true when your buying it see if you can wangle a TDS meter out of em for free or cheap
then youll know how good your water is coming out the other end

The unit looks good, the more prefiltration you have the better as it protects the membrane

We use a 6 stage but the water coming out of the RO has a TDS of 3 and then it goes into the DI and comes out with a TDS of 0, so the last bit is just overkill

I changed the prefilters to suit my needs and it now runs with GAC, then carbon block, then HMA/CBR and the water is good before it even gets to the RO membrane ( but that is overkill too )

A TDS meter reads the Total Disolved Solids in the water this is this like chloirne heavy metals like iron and zinc and any other stuff thats potentially bad for your tank! Its read in PPM - Parts Per Million! and the lower value the better

i believe it works but dont quote me by passing an electrical current through the water and it measures the resistance in the water im sure some one else will correct me if im wrong

You're correct Phoenix, a TDS meter measures the resistivity of water and converts that into a number in ppm of total dissolved Solutes (not solids ) A simple but valuable piece of equipment. As your membrane ages, your TDS will rise at which point you'll need to flush the membrane. The TDS meter helps you diagnose how well your system is running

Agreed, especially when the prices are so reasonable . Wish there were some reasonably priced US suppliers
