Hi I purchased this plec a few weeks ago, I had previously purchased a cracking little plec that was light grey in colour with light and dark patches, I picked this one up the same week, was described as marbled bristlenose, unfortunatly it was over twice the size of the first one and pushed it around a fair bit, as you have guessed I found it dead
I apologise for the poor quality, using a phone :grr:

BN Plec?

Might be a Bulldog/Pitbull plec, the head looks a little bit, some clearer pics might help

Yeah the head freaked me a bit as well, they all came from the same tank, the first one I bought was much smaller and lighter, this one has quite a wide head but I havnt seen any bristles so hoping female, Ill post some more up for you folks, wish I had got some snaps of the little one and kept it in the fry tank

Here's "Kustard", definately a BN and definately a male :good:

Ive watched it about 5 times now and im 99% sure its a BN.

Yeah I think it is also, there was a nice male in the tank, the first female one I brought home was awesome, really nice markings, mission is to find one like it and bring it home, would be ok to keep a young BN in a 10gallon till it got a bit bigger then put it in a 20 or 30 ?

Yeah i think one would be fine in a 10G until they got about 3" SL.
That looks like a piebald female but they do get more patchy when stressed so it might just have been quite stressed to start with.

Yeah I guess the bag would do that, I was hoping that one was female, will certainly be keeping my eyes peeled, nice fish :good:

Yes i agree with all the posts above, i definatly think it is a Bristlenose pleco. Its either a farely young one or a female but i am betting the latter.

The one thing i would say is it has quite a wide head and the top fin is quite far back on the head. Having said that i am 95 percent sure its not a bulldog pleco and 150 percent sure its not a pitbull pleco.

I dont really think its a bulldog pleco because the colour and 'armor like' look isnt there.
Plus the fact that, out of the 8 or so bulldog plecos i have owned in the past only two of them have a head similar to that. the first one was a batch from some i bred and it actually died very early on (but the head looked more defromed than natural like yours) and the second i bought and it actually turned out to be a bristlenose pleco (i.e. it grew bristles and got alot bigger than it should have for a bulldog) Bn grow to about 15-16cm whereas bulldog pleco only grows to about 9-10cm

The reason it definatly isnt a pitbull pleco is because of the colour and pattening plus i have many of them, and i have also bred them in the past. There head is rather flat and the eyes are nearly ontop of the head not the side (its the same with bulldog plecos - hence the name) plus they only grow to 6cm, much smaller.

here are some pictures of both so you can compare but i really really doubt that it is one of them. Its definatly a BN imo

Cheers for the feedback, I can't get a decent pic. because "she" won't stay still long enough :snap:  fairly sure it's BN and fairly sure it's famale, just needed some reassurance. It makes a cracking addition to the tank, very very active plec, on a plus side , since adding "her" I have seen much more activity from the male albino, it;s good to see him out and about, plecs really are cool
