in my garden pond about 1 year ago i had an algae problem so i bout 4 pond snails now in my home i have a 5 gal tank with 1 fantail goldfish would it be ok if i got a snail out of my pond and put it in with my goldfish??

the 5 gallon is far too small for the fantail they need at least 10gallons per fish,so you need to sort that problem out before introducing more animals to the tank

im working on the tank thing but what about the snail.

Bad idea. The fantail should be in a 20 gallon itself and snails produce a lot of waste so you don't want to add even more to your already extremely over-stocked tank. Can't you put the goldfish in the pond?

the tank size apart there is also a chance of adding contamination to the tank from the pond ,id say no when you get a bigger tank buy one in that you know has been in quarantined conditions or put the snail in the smaller tank till its flushed out its system and youve had a chance to treat it yourself

The only types of snail I would put in with a goldfish are apple snails and trumpet snails. Don't know if the goldfish would try to eat the trumpets or not...though they only come out at night and dig in the substrate during the day...they would probably be alright.

I wouldn't put a snail from a pond into the tank for reasons already mentioned...I would get one from a lfs as most all of these (apple snails) have come from snail farmers (in FL?) that have done an excellent job of keeping out the parasites these snails are known for in the wild and in Asia.

omg common man i 1 FANTAIL PER 10 GALLON are you joking?? i have a 10 gallon tank with over 60 fish in there common no fish has died i had the tank like that for 10 months now lol

EDIT: some guy said now 1 fantail im 20 gallon by it self!!! haha

we are here to offer advice and guidance, so please dont ridicule those that give their time to your question.

the question you asked...no dont transfer anything from one water source to another without proper quarantine. the snail would probably be eaten anyway as goldies can suck them out the shell.
An apple snail requires 2 gallons of water
Now...the fantail..yes it can swim around in a 5 gallon but it cant grow as nature intended....goldfish are messy and require large amounts of water and filtration.
20 gallons is rthe minimum required for a 5 inch and over fish, excluding tail.
As your fish will be small its suggested you house it in a 10 gallon to stop water quality deteriorating fast and to allow for growth and freedom of movement.
If you do not wish to take the advice of those people who have tried to help then thats for you to decide...politely

serves me right for not reading dates..and names
