Is there such a thing as a round tail betta? I was at the pet store today and I asked why a particular betta (a female I thought) was priced 2 dollars more than the rest and the woman told me it was a male round tail betta. At first I was thinking maybe she said crown tail betta but it in no way resembled one. It look like a female. It had very short fins and was a dull white color. Am I crazy or have I just not heard of them?

short round tail bettas are called plakats. they are harder to find than veil tail bettas thus you can expect to pay a bit more for them. personally, i prefer the look of plakats, not all of them are dull looking, some are quite beautiful. traditionally, these bettas were (and are) used for fighting in countries like thailand. ;)

yea plakats are more aggressive.... mine jumped into the bettas place beside him ... the plakat only had 1 hole in his tail, but the orange has 1/2 his tail gone... the orange is fine... but he doesnt look as cool as he did before... just means he will live in a vase until his fins are o.k. and he will be ok for breeding..

i like the plakats too.. theyre pretty cool
