Is there such a thing as a round tail betta? I was at the pet store today and I asked why a particular betta (a female I thought) was priced 2 dollars more than the rest and the woman told me it was a male round tail betta. At first I was thinking maybe she said crown tail betta but it in no way resembled one. It look like a female. It had very short fins and was a dull white color. Am I crazy or have I just not heard of them?

If they look like what I seen then why would anyone pay extra for them? It was very dull colored and had shorter fins.

short round tail bettas are called plakats. they are harder to find than veil tail bettas thus you can expect to pay a bit more for them. personally, i prefer the look of plakats, not all of them are dull looking, some are quite beautiful. traditionally, these bettas were (and are) used for fighting in countries like thailand.

yea plakats are more aggressive.... mine jumped into the bettas place beside him ... the plakat only had 1 hole in his tail, but the orange has 1/2 his tail gone... the orange is fine... but he doesnt look as cool as he did before... just means he will live in a vase until his fins are o.k. and he will be ok for breeding..

i like the plakats too.. theyre pretty cool
