Hi. I've got 5 tiger barbs, and four of them are female.
I've got 6 black widows and only 1 is definately male.

Do they always end up with more females in the lfs/when they're born.
Or is it is my luck. Is it a good/bad thing to have only one male of each, if I were to breed them. Or does it not matter?

I just think it's strange that there's so many females compared to males.
If anyone knows this I'll actually be surprised  but I would appreciate your wisdom.

I have bred Tiger Barbs several times. I've usually had an excess of females, but not to the extent you have. I'd say it was more like 60% female 40% male.

Lateral line, do you know if I would be able to get my tigers to spawn in my 5 gallon, if i took out the other fish? I'd like to breed them.

If you follow the procedure in the other thread, and then introduce a good pair into your 5 it may work. Frankly, the male chases the female about quite fast, and a 5 is not a lot of swimming space, I'm assuming a typical 5. Thus it is very far from ideal.

The problem with quoting volume and not size is that I can also say yes, they'll breed perfectly well in a 5, if it it is 2½ feet long, 8" wide and 5" deep!

It's only about 1 1/2 foot long. I'll try anyway at somestage.
They don't seem to chase each other in the big tank tho except for their "pecking order" dance thingies so I'm not sure if they are gonna spawn. But I am going to try cause "knucklehead" has been telling me what to do etc.
