Hi all,

One of my green barbs is starting to look thin and a bit raggard round the fins. It's eating as normal but doesn't have that distintive barb belly. One of the tigers is also staying a lot smaller than the others.

This has only been noticed over the last couple of days but I did have a barb that got really thin and pale before they died not long ago.

These are the fish i used to cycle the tank approx 4 mths ago up until now they've appeared very healthy.

Any suggestions for what might be the prob and a cure would be much appreciated.

Water parameters all fine BTW.

Thanks Ash

SKINNY DISEASE
Symptoms
the fish seem to be eating but look sucked in at the gill plates, the head looks large compared to the body and the body is "skinny"

Treatment
It was thought to be viral and fatal, but has recently been found to be due to a bacterial problem that is treatable with erythromycin in the food. 1.5 gm per pound of food for 10 days.

I have found no reported cases of it affecting barbs, but that dosn't mean it can't.

THanks Wolf. Where did you get that info. Had a quick search on Google came up with Human consumption!

When googeling always put your search topic and add fish at the end
so instead of searching "skinny disease" search skinny disease fish"

haven't mangaged to catch it pooing over the last couple of days. But it's now starting to forget to swim and just floating, that what happened to the last one before it died. :(

Sorry it's dying can you issolate the fish.
