Not quite an emergency but it was at the time

After getting my tank resealed after it leaked all over my carpet, I decided to use some of the insurance claim to get myself a new Eheim Pro II Ext Filter (with the built in heater).

So I spent most of today arranging the wood and filling the tank (after spending the weekend washing the sand).

I got my new filter plugged in and primed it and ended up getting covered in water (and the carpet got it again) when one of the clips that hold the filter lid on broke!!

Has anyone ever had this problem?

Has anyone dealt with a return & replace with aquatics-warehouse.co.uk? Are the easy to deal with? And before anyone says that I should have gone to the LFS to buy the filter, neither had the desired filter in stock and would take a week to get it.

Well this delays the fish getting a new home by about another week

try out their website. see if they have a phone number that you could call about a replacement. what happened to your old filter? you will be able to use that while recycling the tank. if they will replace it, when you get the new one just transfer media and sponges to the newer one.

semper fi - They have an email only policy, to quote the site "Quite frankly, if you want manned telephones & a shop front, choose a site more expensive than us, -less manning of the phones keeps our prices down!" :/

The old filter is a small internal one (used in conjunction with a UG with powerhead) and is in my spare 2ft tank with the fish I rescued when the tank leaked.

See Photo of filter to see the damage

email them and tell them your problem. in the meantime you could get either a box filter ar a dirt magnet as they are called here, if you have to send the filter back for replacement. they attach to your aerator. the dirt magnet looks like a sponge with the bubbles coming out of the top. the box filter you can add media and floss to. both are rather cheap, under ten dollars. come in handy when you do have a filter break down at an unconvenient time.

Jazz,

I'm sory to hear about your troubles but i would go with what semper said about the dirt magnet, it will at least create some current within the tank so the water is not stagnant.

Better yet would be a hydro sponge filter (if they sell these on your side of the pond)

These provide better circulation and a larger biological capacity than the dirt magnet sponge filters.

I have used both and now exclusively use hydro sponge. You can also hook up your powerhead to the hydro sponge filter and really get a great filtering job going!!

Good luck with the replacement issue and let us know what happens.

:grr:

...what sort of attitude is that! - don't these people realise that its the customers that keep them going

The online shop I use is AQUATICS ONLINE

good site and any queries/info you want you can speak to helpful people - (well in my experience anyway :/ )

I take back my concerns regarding the online store, they responded to my email by lunchtime and have already posted out a replacement clip.

Last night I added an old small powerfilter to my 2ft tank and intend to move my larger filter from it into the 4ft (as per suggestions from semper). This should help with the cycle process in the 4ft as the larger filter has been running in the small tank for 2 weeks.

Can I move the large filter out tonight? or do I need to leave it in the 2ft tank till the small filter establishes itself? :S
