Well, I've been doing daily water changes and adding aquarium salt.... Skylar has really perked up and is very active now....Still not to eager to eat, but I've seen him get a pellet or 2.

BUT, what's up with these fins? Are they every going to heal? Now it seems he's got another chunk missing!!!

Any suggestions????

Hmm, perhaps he needs some medicine to help him? Maybe Stress Coat or Bettafix would help? Hopefully someone with more experience will have some suggestions. He looks like he's plenty feisty still at least.

Looks like you're having the SUPER DUPER fun issues I am with a couple of my boys.
I finally decided to say SCREW IT and got them both on Maracyn 2.
They both had curtain-tail (where it curls up and over on the bottom of his tail and curls over on the dorsal fin). So, for that I decided to get them on MelaFix. Because I wasn't aware that you need to dilute down MF by 1/5 for bettas, i overdosed them. (full strength doses w/no water changes in between for 3 days in a row  )

After I figured out the horror of what I had done, the boys were in pretty rough shape. so.... of course I did 100% water changes on them both adn they seemed to be coming around. then, they both started in with the shredded tails. I still don't know for sure if they were eating it, or what, but it looked like they had been caught in a paper shredder.

I have now switched to using only Stress Coat for dechlorinator. That not only adds some slime benefit, but it also dechlorinates the water. I have been dumping in some salt after each water change, and they're both on M2. Archie is showing marked improvement since I started all the above on top of water changes every 3 days.

Harvey hasn't improved much yet, but his problems haven't gotten any worse either.
You might want to try the routine I'm going through - it seems like it's doing Archie at least some good. We shall see.

So I woke up this morning and looked in at Skylar... He has a chunk falling off of his anal fin! I did an immediate 100% water change and removed his plant, thinking maybe that's what's doing it. Went to the LFS and got him some new silk plants.

This is killing me, he swims around and flares at me like crazy, but his fins are falling off!! AAAAAHHHH! :/

If you think it's rot, perhaps a treatment like Maracyn, tetracycline, or jungle fungus eliminator would help. Do live plants have the potential to cause problems? Or did you just mean you thought he might have torn his fins on a fake one? I sure hope you are able to halt whatever is going on with Skylar.
