Is this betta eggbound? This is the picture the seller sent to me, but I was just wondering if it indeed is. Also, how do I release egg bounded female bettas? I heard about the techniques of rubbing her gently with q tips, in a towel, etc. Is there anyway I can do it without breeding or taking her out of the tank?

Sorry :*)

ya i think i saw that pic, she does look like shes gunna blow but i dont think iv heard of any other way to do it, u could use a net and net her in the water and useing rubber gloves kinda rub her sides a lil... :D just an idea, i wouldn't try it until sumone else has confirmed that this might work cause i know absolutely nothing about female bettas full of eggs.

i hope it all works out gl :)

I'd do that after I am desperate to keep her alive. :/

It's really pretty impossible to tell if she's eggbound without seeing her in person. She does look extremely swollen, but she could just be chock full of eggs. :dunno: Usually in the later stages of being eggbound, their bellies get darker, and so far so good if that picture is recent. I'd definitely like to see an update, that would help a lot.

I don't really know of any techniques other than what you've mentioned, and those are obviously very stressful. I'd avoid them too. Giving her some epsom salts might help, that's the only thing I can think of that involves leaving her in the tank.

I emailed him, he said he would take pics of her tomorrow, as well as the other females from the same spawn. I hope she is less swolen when he gets the shots back..

good luck , hopefully she can release them, I am not sure how to relieve the swelling. Jacblades had one that was super swollen, I am not sure what the outcome was. Sorry if i am stalking by replying in this thread. :sly:

He replied to me today

"she is always well fed and currently full of eggs"

That is good to hear that she's always getting good food! but will it be too stressful for a eggbound lady to get shipped?? Its just like a pregnant guppy getting shipped and shaken around... it'll prolly die of stress or give imatture fry

Yes but she would get too stressed out! thats why she is gonna release the eggs! she is gonna save herself and the eggs are like making her die.... I asked a similar question on the livebearers forum like a year ago and this was the answer i got

Well, if she is indeed eggbound from the updated pics I won't take her, I will take the similar female..

the stress in shipping might cause her to release them but when a female is eggbound there is something blocking the hole so im not sure...

i had to fast mine forever and i fed her medicated food on occasion.

in that pic she doesnt look eggobund to me but then again youd have to see her in person.

here was my girl.

here she is now (she became very lopsided after the treatment) she has always had a very round stomach so this pic is normal. im not going to try to breed her again since i fear it might happen again. i definately dont want to kill her :(
