Blood Parrots (mostly) mature to a nice orange colouring.

HOWEVER, I have seen RED Blood Parrots. I am not certain if they are dyed.
Does anyone know if red is a possible 'natural' colour for the Blood Parrot?

yes it is possible, my parrots used to get all red before, but for some reason they dont do it anymore

heres proof, my parrot

Very nice :)

I've seen Red Blood Parrots at Wal-Mart. I may purchase one. After a few months...I'll know if it was dyed or not, lol

Is that what they call a purple parrot? I have a purple parrot baby (not dyed), and he is kind of orangish/red right now. They told me when he gets bigger he will be a deep/bright red and that is why they call him a "purple" parrot. Doesn't make alot of sense to me but as he grows he is getting a deeper color and sometimes he has a purple hue to him.

The purple parrots are darker and more of a red color then regular parrots... but it can be hard to distinguish a natural purple parrot from a dyed one.

Ya - I've asked the local pet stores to order in purple parrots for me...however they all said that they were certain they were dyed.

I guess it depends on the supplier.

Hopefully I'll be able to find actual purple parrots someday. *keeps fingers crossed*

Have you noticed any natural purple parrots at any of the Wal-Marts in the Vancouver area?

Even though you're at the other end of the country, I'm assuming that all the Wal-Marts in Canada have the same supplier.

Iv seen both red and orange naturally in most LFS, and upon a closer look i have decided that they are not dyed. Iv seen many people buy red parrots young, and raise them to twice their size without a fadeing or decrease in coloration. I could be wrong, but typically when young fish are dyed, they lose a bit of that dye as they grow.

I think the really red ones tend to be either dyed or fed with hormone foods and that is why they tend to change colour after purchase.

The last time I was at wal mart was probably 6 months ago.. they did have little parrots, but they were just orange.. and they were something like $30 for a 2''er..
