Hi, we are new fish owners, our females look a little bigger around the stomach than they used to be, i tried to get pictures today but i dont have the best camera, sorry for the pic quality.. They are red wag platys.
Well put it this way, if they aint preggers they've just stuffed there face. I have some platys in a 2ft planted and they are ALWAYS breeding, and when they arent breeding they're just stuffing themselves with food Keep your eye out for little swimming fry around the quiet corners of your tank, they'll hide anywhere and everywhere or they'll get eaten. IIf you want them to breed purchasing a molly/livebearer breeding trap could be worthwhile, just siphon or net the fry into the trap and let them grow in there. Or do what i do, let nature take its course. Mine breed on a pretty much weekly basis and thats farrrrrr to many fry to keep up with so i just let them freeswim in the tank, if they make it they do, if not there a bit of extra fish food
Welcome to the forum Cutchie.
Your platy is probably within just a few days of dropping fry. If you want to save a lot, try using some natural cover in your tank. I use a plant called java moss because the fry can swim right through it but the adults have a hard time following the fry. This is what some looks like in my guppy tank.
The guppies are on top because they can't chase the fry down through the moss.
P.S. My wife hates the stuff. She thinks it looks like algae or something.
