I am contemplating putting a Koralia 1200 gph into my 80 gal. reef tank. Is this too much current for a tank this small? Woudl i be beter off going with the 850 gph? I have a sump pump that will be returing 800 gph in addition. Also, I really want to put crabs/inverts, and some fish in the tank along with the coral. Can they handle this type of water circulation?

Thankx

an average tank circu;lation should be 10x-20x per hour you can go as high as 40x and higher for a reef tank i would suggest putting in the 850gph pump on top of your sump return 1200gph pump if you want to go coral down the road

if this is going to be a reef i would say use all three of them

you need more flow with the koralia due to the type of flow they use, they give a nice wide flow rather than a long straight one so you would need more turnover BUT they are A LOT better than the conventional powerhead.

Were it my tank, I'd use a 1200 AND an 850... Flow is paramount in a reef tank.
