Hi,

I have a plec that i have had for about 3 months, however he never goes off the base of the tank, e.g. i have never seen him suck on the side of the tank, i am always having to clean this myself!

He eats fine, but just moves around on the bottom of the tank and sucks the bog wood. I have sand so im not sure if this is good or not?

Any advice wld be fantasitic,

thanks, mike

Hello Mike. Zebra plecs dont realy eat algie as i have a similar breed to the zebra and to tell you the truth its quite beneith them to suck algie off the glass he he (they leave this to the more common plecs as they are quite regal in the plec world) dont worry this is common they are more eat eaters. i have a bristlenose plec for the algie and he is fantastic and cleans up great and they dont grow very big. Hope that helps.

Well i am plaing to get a trigon 190...

So when i get this should i get a brisilnoise aswell, will the two of them be ok togeather?

THanks, mike

Helo Mike. I have a golden nugget and a l333 and they realy hate each other at the moment and had a big fight yesterday for a place under the log. But they have sorted it out now hopefully but my bristlenose doesnt bother anyone he just gets about his busness sucking algie around the tank not realy careing if there is a big fight going on etc..he just moves away to another place so i would think he will be fine with the others. i also have a royal plec who doesnt bother anyone either..he just sucks on wood all day or cucumber and is happy to do this. I would give it a go. i have a baby bristlenose who i just got off a friend and am waiting for the female in a few months. Go for it give it a go and just keep an eye on them. The other plecs will be a bit more teritorial realy where as the bristlenose will be happy with a bit of wood to hide under maybe or a little pot to go in. Give it a go it will certainly bring your algie problm down.

 a ZEBRA pleco?!?!

how much did you pay for THAT?

P.S you are very lucky to have a zebra plec...this is a plec i can only dream off as they cost in england about £150 (this is way out of my buget) so i would say you are a lucky man.

I paid £5.00 for it. Though its the more common brown zebra plec! soz guys!

Does anyone know about the small sting ray type things ive seen in my lfs, they only seem to be in the cold water section, but i am wondering if u can get them for tropical. I think they arte called chinese...something.

I'm having a similar problem, i bought a glitter plec hoping that he would clean the glass but he did no such thing, i think i should get a bristol nose aswell making another cave for him maybe. i also heard that they eat snails in the tank which would be cool, i'm forever taking snails out of my tank

Um im not sure what it is called, but ive seen them in the cold water dept of my lfs. They are quite small and look similar to Rays, but they are always on the glass..so i wld think they are good algae easters!

If not ill get a bristle noise.

mike

you would be better off with bristle nose as they are tropical & you are running a tropical set up so dont get the hill stream loach as that is classed as cold water :D
