Is My Plec 2 Big?

I bought a tank off my mate about 5 weeks ago, included was a plec, its about 6/7" Long, 2.5" Wide and when its back fin comes up tht looks about 2.5"....

My Tank is 2 ft W x 1 ft x 1 ft H...

He's eating enough i see his crap all over, he just seems to struggle a bit when trying to move....

Any advice would be appreciated!

By th way, i have a medium size cave he can fit his head in and some plants and a few rocks that he likes to hide behind if that helps at all!

Ive seen him sucking on the front of the tank b4 which has made me think hes fine....but no 100% Sure!

A Bit More info, My mate said he got it wen it was just a couple of inchs big and he fed it twice a day! Hense why its so big....!!

If its a common then it can easily get twice the size its is atm so yes it really needs rehoming asap

hmm that seems to be the same as mine m8. im pretty sure its a gold nugget, as apposed to my gold nugget/sailfin which r basically the same fish. lets put it this way ive had mine for 4 months now and hes already way to big for a 2ft tank, although he did grow twice as fast as my other one. these fish will grow to 14" or more ive heard try to get anouther tank preferably 4ft cycled, you have 6 months id say but yea the tank size will begin to get to small and as ive seen their tails will actually curl up and deform or bend if theres not enough room.

enjoy watching him grow though after bout 3-4 months he will begin to turn brown and look very sexy!

sorry but that isn't a gold nugget.

Its def one of the common species tho, most likely P.Pardalis or even P.Gibbiceps

gilly640 can you count the number if spines in its dorsal fin? but i am fairly sure it aint a Gibby.

From that picture I would have said it's a Gibbicep, but it's hard to tell witout seeing it from another angle.
