Is my platy pregnant? Over the last week she’s been getting bigger and going and sitting in corners of my tank and I’m worried that she is going to have fry! It’s not an issue as I already have platy fry in a separate tank (born from another platy) but I panicked and put her in my breeding box just incase as I don’t want the fry to be eaten. Just want to know for definite as if she isn’t I’ll release her back into the tank. She is calm in there and doesn’t seem to be stressing herself she’s still eating flake and shrimp but is just sat there quivering her tail. I can’t see a black spot very well near her anal fin because of her colour but from what I can see there is one

She is definitely pregnant, she looks close to dropping.

Be carful moving her. It can stress her out.

Good luck on your fry! :good:

(P.S. Make sure to remove the mother from the fry, or she might eat them. :fish: )

Thank you, shall I leave her in the breeding box then until she has the fry?

Yes, leave her in there until she has the fry. What other fish are in the tank?

You can read this helpful thread I found...

Put a picture on the back of the tank to make the fish feel more secure.
Add a heap of plants including floating plants like Water Sprite.
Let the female out of the breeding trap and she will hide among the plants when she goes into labour. The babies will also hide in the plants and you can use a small plastic container to scoop them out and put them in a breeding net.

I don’t have any plants tho I have two artificial bushes but I have had to move one into my fry tank

Update! She still hasn’t given birth. Does anyone know how long until she might?

Assuming it is female and doesn't have worms, it is only about half way through the gestation cycle. I would say there is not going to be any babies for about 2 weeks.

It might just be me but it looks like a male
