I've had this molly for about a month now and within the last few days it has become extremely fat. There was another molly in the tank that unfortunately died about a week ago. I'm new at keeping fish and Want to figure out if its pregnant or if there is another issue. Not much has changed as far as behavior maybe a little less active and nibbling on things non-stop.

You can assume that all female livebearers are pregnant, all the time; it's very rare, unless you're buying from a specialist breeder, to get one that isn't.

You don't need to do anything special though; plenty of good clean water and some hiding places (fine leaved, live plants are best), if you want some fry to survive, is all that's needed.

I'm a bit concerned that you've already had a fish die though, that's not good. How big is your tank, how long has it been set up, do you know if it's cycled, and have you been testing the water?

It's a 20g tank but there is only a couple other fish other than the molly now that the one has died. It has been set up for about 4 months now, I test the water regularly and even brought a sample in to the local fish store when the molly died. The water parameters seem to be normal and according to the employee at the fish store it is fine and they think I was just "unlucky" with that particular fish.

Did he give you the exact readings. Very often "fine" is the total opposite. Anything but 0 is not okay. Can you please give us the readings.

That molly looks to be male so it's likely to be over eating, cut back on food a bit and see if it's belly reduces.

I thought that too, I skipped feeding Tuesday and Wednesday and it's size increased so I am a little confused.
