Hey everyone, especially Inchworm, I need your help. Yesterday I posted a few pics of a cute little cory cat that I bought, hoping for help in identifying him. Now I have identified him but also something else, he may be very sick with a bacterial infection. :( I dont want to take him back to store so I took a few more pics last night hoping Inchworm and the other experts on this great forum will help me determine how bad he is, or if he is healing. Is he skinny or normal size? I would appreciate your help. He seems to be eating and scavenging normally because last evenign I used a turkey baster to drop some thawed frozen bloodworms infront of him and he greedily ate them. Here are those pics:

Thanks again for your help.

From my point of view looking much better - more weighty at least :)
Not much barbel, but hopefully in time that will come too.

Hope the cory pulls through, what med are you treating with.

Right now I am only using Melafix + Pimafix because I'll be away for the long weekend and I dont want to start with a strong medication and then cut it off.

That sounds fine you can use them both together.

I am using them both together. I wont be able to administer the dosage for Friday, Saturday or SUnday though, I'll be away. Does he look really bad? Should I feed the tank with Medicated flakes (from Tetra)? He's acting and eating well so far.

He dosn't look bad to me, wouldn't bother with the flakes if you can't give them more than aday, as they have to be given regularly to work.

Hi ravekiss :)

How is your little cory doing? He looks good from the pictures, but it's hard to say for sure because the infection could still be in his system.

I would just give the big water change before you leave and add a dose of meds. Clean water is most important, so if your mom will be feeding him while you are gone, be sure to tell her not to put in too much food at a time. This is especially important if you are feeding frozen worms. You cannot overfeed live ones, but any of the frozen worms that aren't eaten immediately will spoil and are very bad about breeding bacteria.

When you get home, do another water change and then we will be able to evaluate his condition better. If the infection is still active, it should show by then. With luck, he will be on the way to full recovery. :D

HI Inchworm,
He's doign great! I've been watching him. He is so active, always swimming in the air bubbles or up and down the tank walls. His tail fin hasnt been rotting I hope thats a good sign. I will do a water change this evening before I leave. I have one question though. I noticed my black molly with a few white ich spots on her last night, so I am treating the entire tank with Mardel Coppersafe because I know the others may also get it. I dont want to mix medications. What should I do?

Hi ravekiss :)

I'm sorry that I didn't see your last post until it was too late.

Now that you are home again, how is the little cory doing? And your other fish?

I'm glad to say that the cory is looking good...still active and the fins look good too. Unfortunately, my pregnant swordtail died sometime over the weekend. Its weird, I bought her in February and she had a huge gravid spot, I about a month and a half later, she still had a huge spot but I found a baby looking exactly like her. When I left for the weekend last Thursday, she was well with the same gravid spot. I found her dead with no stomach. Her entire stomach was eaten out. There was a big hole... :byebye: :byebye: What do you think happened? The water tested fine.

Sorry to hear this, the fish have pecked at her or she ruptured that's all i can think of, sorry for your loss.

Bless her, good luck with her then.

Hi ravekiss

I'm sorry to learn what happened to your molly. :byebye:

I'm glad to hear that the cory is doing well. It does sound like it has recovered, but continue to keep water conditions including the temperature stable. Let it build its immune system back up again. With a bit of luck, and lots of good nutritious food, it's barbels will begin to grow back too. It will probably never have the long ones it had originally, but they will still work well.

Please let me know about its progress from time to time. :D
