I bought my betta about a week ago and the last few days he has been just laying on the bottom of the bowl and wont eat anything. I did a water change today because I thought it may have been fin rot but there is nothing wrong with its fins. What's wrong with him?

Have you tested your water parameters? What are your Ammonia, NitrIte, NitRate and pH readings? Was your tank/bowl cycled? Do you have a filter or heater in the bowl? What size bowl is it? Has he been eating and how often do you feed him?

Sorry for all the questions but they will all help decide what is wrong with him.

That happened to my little Tony  I hope you find a way to save your Betta, sadly Tony refused to eat and died 7 days later of me buying him

It sounds like both of you may have put them in uncycled bowls/tanks and they are dying from the build up of ammonia and nitrite. Have you tested your water. Please see the list of questions I posted earlier. It will be hard to discern a cause without the answers to those questions. I am certainly no expert but I do know the answers to those questions will tell a lot.

How about dechlorination? Do you do that after a water change?

If you have a bowl or something like a 2 gallon tank, AND you do 100% water changes you don't have to worry about tank cycling.

It takes bettas a while to adjust to their new homes, but in some cases (like my last rescue) they can be really sick.

If you can answer the questions asked earlier we'll be able to better help get you on the right track.
