I am proposing to alter the substrate in one of my tanks to better suit some of the fish I have.
I have 2 Geophagus Surinamensis, 2 Banjos and loads of Corys ( not sure which I'll move to this tank).
I like the look of white sand and wondered if white marine sand would be OK ( as sold by seapets.co.uk ).Any body got any experience with it, also does it stay white or do you know a better alternative..Also when you syphon the bottom etc how do you get dirt out and keep sand in? Any other fish like a sandy bottom?
Any advice on any of this would be great.

Cories like soft water. Marine sand I believe will raise the Ph. You do not want to do that for SA tropicals or any of the SE Asian tropicals either. African Cichlids like hard water, and you might be able to use it for them. Most Corys will absolutely not adapt and thrive in hard water. Most probably won't spawn either.

Definitely NOT, marine sand is usually formed from crushed coral and shells, this will send the pH way up beyond the natural range Corys are accustomed to. Use play pit sand, this is smooth grained and totally inert.
