For food, I got my betta to jump and touch the nonwriting end of a pen that's about a half an inch above the water. I do this 2-3 times a day. Is this alright for the betta?
Why not do it with his food instead? It would be a tease otherwise imo, but no there it no real danger as long as it doesn't stab him in the eye or anything.
I have several that do it. Jump up when I'm trying to feed them. Stick to the side of the tank and then slowly slide down to the water again. It's a race to see who can be the quickest... me with the food or him jumping.
