is it white spot should i use sand or gravel

is this white spot one of the bottom fins are stuck to its body it is covered in white spot the fish is a large platty ive only had the fish 2 days could it be the gravel ive got in my tank cos in my other tank i used sand and had no problems

Sorry mate cann't tell from that pic (looks more like early stages of some fin rot :/ )- got a better one?

White spot/ich would be several small white dots (1-2mm) scattered across the fins and body. Have a look at the pinned topics in beginners - I think theres a photo of it :unsure:

Choice of substrate i don't think would make a difference.

That's not a platy,that's a male sailfin molly. It looks like fungus to me. My gold molly is prone to it,also. Use some anti-fungal meds and add a little extra salt to the water. Do a water change before treatment,and follow the directions on the anti-fungal meds w/the salt until it clears up. Good Luck. :)
