I live in north west UK and its pretty warm now and my pond fish are active. Is it ok to feed them now cos I'm itching to do it and start spending ore time with them again!!! lol

try and see if they eat it after a certain time yes if not net it out and try again later

already did this morning!!lol they wolfed it down, I only fed a little

feed around midday which will give the food time to digest...and feed a spring/autumn food which will be easily digested. every other day give a few pellets and see how lively they are.

if you dont see them swimming around or sluggish then dont feed

cheers for the reply I just checked them ou now nd as its going dark they are stil very active, reminds me how much I miss the pond in the winter

hi im only in chester so not far from you :)
ideally you want the temp of the pond to remian above ten degrees to feed them their main summertime diet
if they seem active and hungry before this temp happens feed with wheatgerm pellets as they are easier to digest at low temps i miss my pond too
regards scot :)

Cheers Scott

I just got that feeling tht spring was here today and the fish have been active. the wnter is crap!!!

If the pond temp is warmer than 10 degree's C then you can feed them standard fish food, if the pond is lower than 10 degree's C though then you should only feed them special wheatgerm goldfish/koi food or nothing at all.

my ponds at 7 degrees atm. ive been feeding wheatgerm for the last week.

personally i would still only feed wheatgerm in the winter/spring due to the colder nights. if your not heated then the pond temp will drop alot.

hi all

im still feeding wheatgerm and will be for a while to come had 60kg delivered in oct last year
i have a egg bound koi so was planning on starving then for a few weeks to get her to absorb the eggs, but then winter kicked in early and severly so not fed for most of the winter so still stuck with around 50kg
oh well at least the pond will have low waste levels :good:

I have been feeding standard food for the past month every couple of days around 10-11 am so that the fish can digest when the pond is at peak temp.
