When i say at the side of the tank i refer to the actual glass that it is stuck to. So if you will turning the spray bar right round so the jets spray towards the glass that the suckers are stuck to.

the reason for this is because i wish to reduce the turbulance that the bar is causing in the water ( fluval 4 in a 36 x 12 x 18 tank. its currently pointing up towards the surface for the water, but its still causing a lot of turbulance in the tank. I just figured if i pointed it straight backwards then it would reduce this.

any ideas anyone?

I do for the same reason in my Betta tank. You need to be a little careful that you don't cause water to come out the top of the tank as it will push up and down against the glass. I angle my spray bar down a little to keep the water from flowing up and out of the tank but otherwise it works quite well.

sweet, thanks mate. im need to do it in my discus tank as i dont want a sponge filter in there, only my breeding tanks will have them.

cheers !

Yup, I do the same with with both my Fluval 204 and Rena +2.

If you can point it in the direction where it will still create some sort of surface displacement as this is good not only for oxyginating the water as well as other benefits (not enough time to write them down right now!)

Good question though!

thanks guys, did it last night and it seems to have worked a treat. Just need the fluval 4 to get up to speed now so i can remove the fluval 2 and all should be good. thanks for the advice on this :)

i say just get a sponge filter and give the fluval 4 to me

Obviously you are dramatically reducing your filter flow and thus effectiveness, but if you're over filtering on an under stocked tank, this is not an issue :)

The faster the water can flow out, the faster it will flow in. If it meets great resistance on the outflow, it will suck the water up the inlet a lot slower too.

wouldn`t aiming it down and towards the glass be the best option as in aiming it towards the bottom corner...

With my Juwel, I pointed the nozzle at an angle downward and towards the glass.
With my Eheim 2213 (mega strong in a 19 gallon) I had to angle the spray bar partially to the back and down. But I changed the little green spray bar to the larger Charcoal opaque colour one and can now direct it straight out for a lovely gentler flow.

But yes, directing it just downward slightly towards the glass (I think) would be better than directing straight back at the glass.

I also have a venturi to suck air in even though the surface is quite still. Since there is only a betta in there it is not much of an issue for me anyway. I don't think the filter is restricted much at all.
