I was thinking about adding some aquarium salt to my 2 week old tank to reduce the stress to the fish by my 0.5 ppm nitrite reading. Is there any reason why I shoudn't do this such as - will it be bad for any types of fish i wish to add in the future ?

You should never add salt with corys in the tank.It will burn their skin and be very painful for them.
Does it burn other types of catfish too? I would think all scaleless fish, but I am not really sure.

Many people on here argue that salt is fine for catfish btw, I don't persoanlly use it though. It's said to be bad for laoches and catfish although I have not experienced effects, when I didn't know.

Any salt is not usually good for community type of tropical fish. Salt should only be used to treat ailing fish in a hospital / quaranteine tank or for specialist only fish.
Tetras will die if there is salt in the water. I personally would avoid salt in the water.
