hey guys
well i picked up a trio of spinny nose peacock eels a few days a go, and as i read, all i expected them to do was hide and dig all day, but i was 2/3 wrong,
the one just digs all day and hide out amongst the moss and the wood, but the other two swim up and down the glass and playfully swim around with the other fish!
i think this is good but i was wondering, is it normal for them to do this? is there something wrong? and they dont seemed stressed.
or is it just little me being worried?

thanks

DD

I think its just little you being worried DD! :)

My guy is pretty active, and comes out and swims out to greet me! he doesnt swim with my other fish however! Maybe they are in excellent health, which in your care im sure they are. How long are they? Im just interested that all! :D

Congrats on the new purchases and look forward to some pics!

thanks :)

they are around 3.5 inches atm, planing on growing them full size :)
pics will be up tomorow :D

Depends on the eel really. I have four peacocks atm and three only come out at night yet the fourth is out a good 90% of the time. He is also the most curious towards me, checking me out as much as I check him out (the others do too when they are out, but not to as much a degree).

They are pretty cute at the size yours are (two of mine are around the same size, one slightly larger - all three relatively new additions) but are well worth the wait when they finally grow to their adult size too. My oldest is pretty much fully grown and is huge, upwards of around 9 or so inches in length and about an inch-inch and a half in girth.

My fire eel has always been very active as was my tyre track however I have two peacock eels which I hadn't kept before, I've had them about 5 months and I don't think I have seen them out. I check everynow and again that they are there by checking in the sand . They're still there and quite plump so obviously feedig but just never above the sand. so we seem to have opposite style fish!!

My peacock eel doesn't like hiding under the sand, he prefers to lay either out in the open or on one of my fake plants :dunno: I don't think all eels like to burrow and hide :)

My tyre track eel I just moved into the big tank I don't see much at all, he pops his head out of the tube grabs and mussel then goes back in.

My Fire eel hies in the day but at feeding time when just the blue light is on he comes out and will hand feed at the surface.

My lonely peacock eels just cruises around as he pleases, maybe take a rest in some wood or in the moss balls. Waiting for some descent size ones to come back in to bump it up to 3.

My eel hid underneath the sand for two weeks once introduced, but i have since planted it out and he never hides, i can always find him.

One thing he has done is dig a burrow underneath my large bogwood. he lies ini their if he is frightened.

It depends on your tank, you tank mates and what your eels temperament is like!
