Hi. I woke this morning to find my white molly has a thick whitening colour to her tail. Wasnt there last night. It doesnt look anything like fungus. Could it be signs of an injury? I dont know what an injured fin or tail looks like. Last night she was very playful and her and the other mollies were playing like a tag game (they do every now and then) when she darted up and hit the tank top hard, could she of banged her tail? or could she of burnt it on the heater as she was hiding behind there alot? (in the tag game they hide from each other)

She is fine in herself and water paremeters are all fine. Cant get picture, Ive tried but never successful with mollies

Nope looks nothing like that. I got some one who specialises in fish to come look today as the whitened part started to come away, like skin peeling after sun burn. They looked carefuly, even got the fih out and and they said it looks like its been burned on the heater. Thing is she keeps hanging round it still for the hiding place when there playing  Where could I get a gaurd from? Oh and how long before it will grow back? Forgot to ask him that.

What are your water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.
I would add some melafix to the tank.

I would say to try checking your LFS and ask them if they would be able to locate anything for you. Check out THIS website here. They have protective heating covers. They are made by Hagen. See if these could help you out, as I am not sure of the brand of heater you have.
You could also if it's not already there, move your heater to where you have great circulation in your tank, such as over an aerator. To help your fish heal use an anti-bacterial, and stress coat combination. The stress coat will help provide an extra layer of mucus for your fish while she heals. Also it would be best to try and isolate her while she heals so that no other fish can harm her. (that is if you see her being chased specifically or having trouble getting around).

Best of Luck with her healing! :fish:

Thanks for replys.

Ok my stats are as of todays readings:
Amonia 0ppm
Nitrite 0pp,
Nitrate 10ppm

Im now not sure it is burning from heater. I woke this morning to find a neon tetra dead but with no signs of anything wrong with it before and its body was in great condition?? Today the one with the tail fin problem has now got the same problem starting on the lower part!! all though she keeps swimming round the heater still, I even tried putting plants there for now but that doesnt help. Ive been sitting watching them most the day to look for any other odd behaviour or signs and there is NO flicking/flashing or anything. How ever ive just noticed on one side of one neon tetra a break in colour half way on body. Where the blue and red goes the colour is going. Now yesturday i saw a diagnosis picture the same and I cant find it. I think there is something else going on here thats starting to surface . I make sure the water is always ok and nothing new has been added or changed. I am wondering if it is related to the why the penguin tetra started turning green in colour recently, I qauerenteened the fish and it just went back to normal so put it back in tank.

Any ideas now??

Oooooh not good. The colour loss on the neon is possibly a sign of Neon Tetra Disease.

I would look at using some kind of anti bacterial treatment, myxazyn for a start certainly (if you're in the uk that is, not sure about the rest of the world) for external bacterial infections. I believe waterlife Protozin is good for internal bacterial infections. I have always used interpet 9 for this and it sppeared to stop a spate of unexpected deaths in their tracks. My community tank has been pretty stable since.

I would keep your maintenance regime up to date now more than ever. Good water quality is crucial to healing fish.

Yeh i found that link I was on about and the picture in it looks exactly the same!! Ive also read about 50 more other links for neon tetra disease and no other sympton fits so confused, it also mentioned false neon tetra disease?

I have water life protizin and did add a dose actualy earlier today to get a course started. Would using an anti external bacteria treatment such as myxazyn be ok to use at same time??

Im real worried now, Im going to LFS 1st thing tomorrow so want to know what else i should get whilst there.
