Hi,

My tank is looking a little murky at the moment am i doing anything wrong? I'm guessing its something to do with the 4 clown loaches i recently put in the tank as they move a lot of gravel around so could be causing bits to be floating about??

Also one of my guppies is not looking too good - i found him this morning just lying on the gravel and again this afternoon which I've never seen him do before. He is one of the smallest out of the 5 and his tail looks cut up at the end whereas the others look smooth... any ideas?

Here is some extra info:

The tank is 12 gallons with 4 clown loaches, 5 male guppies, 2 neon tetras. Light is on 10 hours a day, they are fed once a day ex. Saturday and clown loaches get sinking food. I do a water change normally once every 2 weeks but i only recently go the clown loaches so have had to do a few more water changes. Tanks been running for about 6 months ish.

Temp : 26 C
PH : 8.0 - this PH is normal
Ammonia : 0.1 mg/l
Nitrate : 12.5 mg/l
Nitrite : 0.1 mg/l - this has been up recently with the introduction of the new fish.

Hope you guys can help...

Mike.

Very overstocked, you can't keep 4 clown loaches in that size tank they need a 90gal tank, do an immediate water change, the guppy if resting on the botom is not good at all they do that when dying, with being overstocked the filter won't be coping with the load of fish in there, i would rehome the clown loaches fast.

Dang 4 clown loaches in a 12 gallon. I'd definately get them out of there fast, they need a much larger tank.

Looks like you've gone into a mini-cycle, all you can do for now is water changes every few days. Male guppies together are always risky, he could have been bitten and what with being small too is probably an underdog.

ok then,

i see a pattern your your comments! i guess my friends advice was really wrong then to get clown loaches :(

Will they be ok in here for a few days until i get somewhere else for them to go?

Sorry about this guys.
Mike

Yes just keep an eye on water quality, and some daily water changes to get the ammonia and nitrite reading down.

May also be finrot, which often happens when you have water issues. Keep it up with the water changes and see about sorting out the stocking issue.
