Is Any Old Sand Ok?

So I've decided I'm going to sand some of my tank, and I know everyone says Argos play sand is good/cheap. But Argos is a fair way away from me and a 15kg bag of sand will possibly be hard to fit in my backpack to get on my motorbike. So I was wondering, as I live 2 minutes walk away from a builders yard, wether any old sand would do? I could probably pick up a shovel full for pennies. Thanks for any relies!

If your talking about sand you used then it probably would be good as it may be more cleaner then getting it new

No, any old sand is not ok!

You don't want silver or sharp sand; paving or pool filter sand are both ok, if they have those.
