No they are all not that bad, i have a 5 footer and 2 30" aquariums with jewel lights, and never had a problem with them, i think you just just unlucky.

When I got my rio, I checked everything over before setting it up and the lights didn't work. This was a brand new tank. I took the light bar back to the shop straight away and they ordered a new one. That was 18 months ago and the replacement has worked fine since then.

My Lido from Seapets I got for christmas is still going.

I've had no problems with mine, it's been running for about 2 years now

I have had no problem with my Lido 120 light unit...even though I have submerged it in the water by accident afew times.... :X

I've got two. One lasted about 3 years and had to be replaced, the other has been fine for 1 year.

I think there must have been some bad batches or something- my oldest tank lights have never had to be replaced and have been running for 2years 9months, but the other two sets of lights have had to be replaced once each in one year, and one of them broke again a few weeks back- luckily they're still under warranty so it will be easy to get them replaced.
