Hi, The tank is about 7.6 litres, I had a Fluval 25w nano heater in there but it was rubbish and barely kept it over 21c when housed in the filter pump compartment (so not in the main tank area), I found the Visi-Therm Heater-Stat 50W 15cm which will fit perfectly ... I just want to get something a bit more powerful as it's in the pump compartment and the room is sometimes cold, so is the 50w ok in such a small tank?

A 25W heater should be plenty, and then some, for a tank that size, although surface to volume ratio might be starting to become important at such a small size. The 50W has the distinct disadvantage of being big enough to overheat your fish if anything goes wrong with its control system. Have you tried simply adding a thin layer of styrofoam insulation to the back and bottom instead? That way you should be able to use the smaller heater and get the temperatures you want.

I'm also looking for anew heater for my flulval edge, 6 gallon tank. I currently have the Fluval 25 watt but I also worry that it doesnt maintain a nice temp now that it's winter. Basically, it su x because it's preset, a 25w heater that allows you to set the target temp should be just fine. Just try to keep a thermometer in the tank because usually the heater will heat the water a couple degrees below its set temperature, so you'll have to play with it.
