irredesent catfish growth rate

I rescued a pangasius from the tank in my old work because he got too big for their 96ltr tank, they got him when he was about 2" and grew to about 6" in about 4 month, I tokk him home with a plan to rehome him but kept him in my 300ltr, that was about 4 months ago again and he has only grown about an inch since then, I was worried that putting hiom in a tank 3 times the size would mean he'd turn into a monster but he hasnt grown alot.

Ive grown quite attached to him now but Ive heard people say they seem to have growth spurts and can barely grow for months then all of a sudden grow.

We have plans for a big indoor pond soon so I might keep him and put him in there.

There are many horror stories about how big they grow and I wouldnt recomend anyone get one unless they have the room for it eventually, I only have one because I rescued him but I have to say they are beautifull fish....I just wish he swam about with the lights on instead of sitting on the bottom then the minute the lights are off he is swimming back and forward within seconds.

tryinbg not to hijack your topic here but what does irredecent mean with fish?

Have you looked at the pinned topic at the top of the catfish section. If you have these beasts you are going to need one huge tank.

it means "color that changes with the light angle" or in other words, nothing. :p "irredescent catfish" is just the name that an LFS gave the fish that stuck with it. there's not really any scientific or breeder's association meaning.
