Has any one bought the iquatics reflectors for t5 lighting. where mine attaches to the metal clip the reflectors have melted as the clip is metal and heats up from the light and that is then transferred through the metal clip and has ended up melting the reflector. has anyone else had this problem using t5 lighting?

just wondered if this is common on these reflectors. any info is appreciated.

just looking round the net, and found a few people with the same problem, I will post my pictures later as my camera batteries are flat, but I have found this picture,

and this is exactly whats happened to mine. and they are only 6 months old.

As I say will take pictures of mine later. anyone else having this problem, I messaged iquatics and they said they have now changed the design makeup. Do you all think I should have a guarantee with these as they are only 6 months old.

if they have changed the design then they must be aware of the fault and i would have thought must be in a position to change your faulty/damaged unit for the new kind especially as its only 6 months old.

Can't hurt to ask them.

Guarantee would depend on the original offer. Check the paperwork.

Sale of goods would be interesting in this case. It certainly performs the function it is sold to do so that wouldn't apply, but as for it being fit for purpose then their changing their designs because of a known fault that renders the product possibly dangerous (would depend how flammable the materials are when exposed to direct contact with a T5) would go against them.

First up, ask them, they may replace if you send pictures of a failure. Probably depends a lot on where they're getting them from.

I would definitely pursue this.

I am pretty sure that the Sale of Goods Act applies here. If it melts whilst doing what it was intended for then it is not fit for purpose.

A pleasant, but firm email complaining that this should not happen & then requesting that they replace it is the order of the day!

(and if that fails threaten them with Anne Robinson!)

I dont really like complaining and am in contact through messaging with them, as im not one to phone people. I do believe they are a good company that had these made for them, then these problems arose so they changed the design. heres what they did say by message.

We have re-designed the reflectors and they are now made of aluminum, they are heat resistant up to around 500 degrees so there is no chance of them melting or warping. They have been re designed from the ground up and are a completely different product now.

So it does seem that they changed the design because there was a problem with the plastic ones and the plastic ones were not fit for the use they were intended for, as they must of known what heat the T5 lights could reach and if there reflectors would melt at that heat. I am hoping we can sort it out, if not I lose my money and wont use them again and will have to find a different make.

I didn't mean an aggressive complaint!

Just a gentle 'well there is obviously something wrong with the old ones - please could you replace them.'

I know that they are an honest company as I have used them many times for metal halide lamps. Once they turned up smashed - a simple email (not really a complaint - just please can you replace) and they sent out new ones.

Agreed. Aggressive rarely works well, and they're one of the better ones for communication.

If you don't ask though.....................they're in business after all, they'll just assume you don't want a replacement.

well they said they want me to call them, I do believe they are a good company and im not rubbishing them in any way. but as I said I find it hard to speak on the phone and they cant deal with it any other way they said  I get knocked all the time about my confidence by my family.

thanks Shawn, Yes I got Andrew's message.

Andrew has offered me a replacement, it seems they only needed to chat to me to make sure what the exact problem was and that they have dealt with it correctly, and also to make sure im 100% happy with the outcome, also they understood im not a phone person.

It is nice to know that there is some companies that like to give good customer service in this day and age where a lot of customer service has gone out the door. so I cant fault them on that.

Yes - I have always found them a really reputable company who are always willing to help. :good: for their customer service.

Hi everyone,

Just a very quick one from us.

The old style reflectors were heat resistant up to 105 degrees, this in most cases is perfectly adequate which is why we have only had a handful of issues with them out of the thousands we sold. Unfortunately some lighting systems run above this temperature and caused issues with the reflectors.

With this in mind, and the fact that we pride ourselves on offering quality items at competitive prices we decided to make a reflector that was suitable for everyone, even those that have lighting systems that run above the 105 degree threshold of the ABS reflectors.

The new reflectors are made from Aluminium and are heat resistant up to 500 degrees, if your lighting is hitting 500 degrees you need to have a serious think about it :) so we envisage no further problems and now have a reflector that is suitable for all.

Thank you for your time

Kind Regards

Shawn

The way they dealt with my problem has left me feeling that they are a good company that believes in good customer service, so much so, that I have just ordered an extra 2 reflectors as well, so thanks guys.

With a nice demonstration of why they bother being one of the better ones for communication.
