I'm starting up a big tank and I'm planning to have balas, pimelodus pictus, clown loaches, angels, silver dollars, and others (generally, peaceful community). I am thinking it would be good fun to keep some kind of inverts/non fish as well; such as maybe hermit crabs or ghost shrimp (if i can FIND THEM at any LFS in dc metro area :() or maybe even a turtle or frog if I could? Can anybody give me some ideas?

Thanks,
Robert

you basically mentioed all the ideas i could think of, lol

I am somewhat worried that my loaches will eat any snails I put in the tank. Is this a valid concern?

Rock shrip are neat... they stand up and spread out there feet to catch food. They're fun to watch

Yes  you're right -- loaches and snails don't mix!

I've been looking at a couple of different freshwater shrimps. Apparently, the amano and cherry reds eat complementary types of algae.
