Hi all,

What inverts do well with a betta?

Thanks.

The general consensus is that you just have to try it and see. Some bettas will snack on shrimp and snails and some won't :dunno:

Hi almostawesome :)

Thanks for your response. Today I'm taking my corys and rummynoses back to the store so the only fish that will be in my tank is my male betta. Thought it would be nice to add some inverts. Are there any that definitely should not be added?

Big claws are a no-no. Other than that I can't think of anything.

That's a big tank for just a betta and some inverts lol

Ok, well, I'll look around at my LFS and see if anything looks good. I have a few snails with big shells (sorry, can't remember what kind they are) and they're neat and add some color.

Yes, my betta will have his "palace" back cuz it's quite large for just him. lol He's hiding except for maybe 5 seconds here and 10 seconds there. It's been days since I added the corys and rummynoses, and yesterday I saw a rummynose go after my betta, nipping at his fins. It will probably look like a boring tank but I don't care. My betta, some inverts, plants and driftwood will be it. :fun:

Then just get rid of the rummynoses? Rasboras aren't nippers like tetras are BTW.

Sorry, wanted to add one more thing. I was hoping to add maybe 3 slow moving fish that are compatible with bettas but no one seems to have a suggestion as to what kind of fish that describes. So, I guess it will just be him.

Ok, perhaps a school of harlequins. Darn, none of the pet stores can find the espei rasboras which was my original plan. If I could find them it would cost me about $100.00 (because of shipping) and I don't want to spend that much.

Yeah, that stinks :/ Harlequins are nice too, but just don't get as many as they get bigger than espei :)

Yes, the corys are the cutest little things! It just seems that their zipping around is bothering my betta. Seriously, he has hardly been out for days where before he was swimming everywhere.

If I get the harlequins, how many do you think would be good for my tank?

rummys are pretty active from what I gather so I would try removing them first :) The corys become a little less active as they settle in too. He's probably just having to adjust :)

oh and corys are a nightmare to catch lol

Yes, as much as I like the rummynoses, they're like little psycho fish. :fun: One thing I've noticed with them is that when the lights are on they stay towards the bottom and are competing for space with the corys. However, when the lights go off they begin swimming in the middle of the water column. I'm thinking that my lighting is perhaps just too much for them. ????

Yes, I figured I'd probably have to take the driftwood out of the tank just to catch those little cuties.

Ya know almostawesome, I realize I've said this before to you, but you sure are helpful.

Haha, well thanks!

I don't know a lot about RN tetras so can't really say! Most fish take a good week or two to properly settle in though. I have to say, if they are already nipping your betta they are bound to get worse as they settle in!
