Hey fish peeps ... I was siphoning my gravel the other day, and gasped when I found HUNDREDS of tiny little mystery snails hiding in the substrate. How on EARTH did they get there? (Their common name really suits them). I've had this tank set up for a year and havent added a fish, or a plant or a rock in 11 months! This is the first I've seen of these pests. How do I get rid of them? My mbuna don't seem to eat them. -_-

IMO u have 3 choices:

If you want to use chems, you can buy special treatments which will kill snails, (I don't recomend it because if you have as many as you say you do, they will pollyute your tank when they rot)

You can put a peice of lettuce in the tank. In the morning take it out and it should be covered in snails. It wont get them all out at once, but it will help keep the numbers down.

You can also buy snail traps, not sure how they work though.

Snails can also be a sign of excess nutrients in the water, are you overfeeding??

Hope this helps!
