What are the cons of introducing wild caught cleaners into the tank, such as small hermits and snails? Is it okay to do so?

That's what I was thinking :shifty: Its illegal to collect from the wild, you need a special permit. Atleast that's how it is in California.

1 problem you would/may have is introducing unknow pathogens into your tank

Personally for the money you would save I dont think it is worth the risk

HAHA, with gas prices here in Cali it would just be cheaper to buy the crabs/snails  rather than drive down to the beach and get them. I agree with Callell, the waters off of the coast aren't exactl prestine... not here anyways...

EDIT: Where are you from?

Who Me?? I live in San Jose about 30minutes from the coast so I woudn't be spending that much gas. Although, I havent seen that many good tide pools in Santa Cruz so my best bet would be to go down to Monterey Bay.They also have a pretty nice aquarium there too

I actually meant the OP. But thats cool, I live in Carlsbad, and at the right time of year there are tidepools everywhere.

i live on the east coast of florida
