Hi all,

just wanting to know what would be best when adding a seperate male and female krib to a tank. Eddie has kindly offered me a male krib, while I can get females at my lfs.

Should I put the male in first, then add 2 or even 3 females?
Or put a female or two in first, and add him later?

Any info much appreciated

I started with 2 females (bought as a "Pair"), then added the male about a week later. He choose which female he wanted, and they started chasing off the other female, so I removed her. But, I really don't think it matters??? The best way might actually be to seperate the tank and add them together. Then they can size each other up without any true fighting.

Depending on how large your tank is, you could have either a straight 1/1 pair (20g minimum), or a harem of 1m/3f. I have done both. Works either way. Just don't do the 1m/2f, that sure didn't work for me...... And be aware, the females will fight for dominance amongst themselves. Each one will want to be HIS favorite :p Normally it's just displays to make themselves look good, but they CAN get violent.

HTH :)

I think I might try with 3 females then, and give him more choice!! It is a 75g tank, so that should help with any potential cat-scraps between the ladies!! :D

Jump,

Make sure there are plenty of caves so that each female can choose her own spawning site away from/out of site of the others.

I will begin landscaping this week! :D

There are a few natural caves with the bogwood I have in there at the moment, but I will probably creat a couple more to be safe...

Cheers Ed.
