I am looking to warm up my coldwater tank slightly (due to the cold temperatures in Scotland at this time of the year) and have purchased a Interpet 150W Delta Therm heater.

Currently, the tank temperature sits at 17 degrees celsius. The heater's lowest setting is 20 degrees celsius, however I have been advised that 22 degrees is a safe temperature for my two fish that live in the tank (one 5 year old comet and one 6 month old shubunkin).

The tank is 70ltrs, so, according to the box, the heater is the correct size for the tank capacity.

Can anyone confirm that 20-22 degrees is a safe temperature for my tank? I understand I cannot raise the temperature more than +- 2 degrees celsius at any one time.

Cheers,

Here in Pennsylvania, in the USA, mine is 70 degrees fairenheit room temperature. Which is 21 celcius for you. I have 2 Goldfish in that tank. So yes, I would say 21 celcius is just fine.

I have mine set at 22 for my black moor shes had it set like that for over a year and shes fine.

Hi Pico.

Although the temperature in Scotland is a bit colder than in the south of England, the two fish that you have in your tank are more than capable of surviving much lower temperatures. As a rule a cold water fishes colour is always at its best in the winter. So enjoy.

Yeah I would agree with the last poster. Im in scotland and my pond fish do just fine outside. Goldies need temperature changes to tell them seasons for breeding. Dont worry about adding a heater, theyll be fine
