My Intro
Well... picked up my buddies 55g tank and, unfortunately, it doesn't do much for me . Without grabbing a tape measure, it seems it's only about 12 deep, 20 high(using a sheet of 8 1/2 x 11 paper to measure with ). To me, that leaves minimal rockscaping flexibility.
Secondly, no skimmer . He used an Eheim Classic 2213 for the tank. Not sure i'll have any use for that.
Lastly, just a bunch of misc. doodads, mostly leftovers for another smaller freshwater setup he had(died substrate, etc.)
Soooo.... since this tank isn't filling any voids for me, i was thinking of converting it into a sump somehow and finding a tank more in the neighborhood of 24ish deep, 18ish high. Bottom line is, i'm not much further ahead than when i started lurking here . Oh well...
As far as lfs's, I found some pretty friendly ones, and some even willing to point me to the 'competition' to get me the right 'reefers' place. All in all, pretty pleased locally.
Finally, the creme de la creme. My buddy 'Omen' here, found a nice peice of coral on ebay, and it wound up being not far from us( The Coral)(roughly the size of a computer power supply). Last night, we ventured to the guys house to pick it up, and found out, he runs a business from his house, essentially. Basically, he get's weekly shipments of corals(or whatever you're interested in), that are ordered straight to the divers, from the divers to LAX, LAX to MN, in roughly a day. All his specimens were BEAUTIFUL compared to lfs's. We Looked at all his holding tanks for about 45 minutes and was picking his brain for a while. Then, he brought us to his main tank. 250g in his basement. Words CANNOT describe it at all... just 100% pure, concentrated .
His only exceptions were Marshall Islands. Licensing, laws and regulations, are making it difficult (or impossible?) to get stuff from there. His current place of choice is out of vietnam area.
Guess that's about it, if some of this doesn't make any sense, there was alot to take in yesterday .
