Hi, I'm Ember and I'm a betta fanatic. :-D

I am and have been a betta fanatic now for about 4 years. I started with a 2.5 gallon bowl, then another, and another, then a 6 gallon Eclipse. I finally reached 4 bowls (2.5 gallon), a 3 gallon hex, and the 6 gallon tank. My husband complained about it starting to look like petshop so I consolidated the bowls into a 10 gallon tank that I divided into 3, it's my betta condo. A very unsophisticated design but I love it.

Most of my bettas were rescues in bad shape, several were very near death (in fact, a few were mistaken for dead). I've been real good at nursing them back to health. Other than a couple, I've never had a betta less than 6 months. Although, unfortunately, none more than 2 years (actually correct that, my lone female is now about 26 months and still thriving). Not really sure how long they're usually supposed to live. I'd say the average lifespan of my bettas so far is about 14-20 months or so.

I've been pretty good at keeping myself limited to 3 boys in the betta condo and 1 lone female in the 6 gallon Eclipse. But two days ago I went to the lfs JUST to get a flourescent bulb for my tank and they had the most gorgeous bettas I've ever seen in a store! I couldn't resist. Not only did I buy one but when I realized I forgot something and went back, I saw another that I absolutely needed. It was extremely difficult to choose, they were all so very gorgeous. I did limit myself though, I brought home only 2 gorgeous crowntails. The first guy I couldn't resist had colors of a Mustard Gas. The lfs had 4 total like him. Yellow and purple or yellow and blue. I could hardly decide. I'd always wanted a Mustard Gas and I've always wanted a crowntail! Here it was in one fish. Then the second I couldn't tear myself away from was a very distinctly red white and blue crowntail. He's incredible! They are both in their own 2.5 gallon bowl with bettamax. I treat all my new adoptees to a 5 day betta max spa treatment upon arriving home. It seems to work well for us so far.

Hopefully I'll have pics to post soon. Unfortunately I have internet issues with the computer that I use for pics. Might take some sorting out.

Hi and welcome to TFF :)
You'll feel right at home here, i hear again and again on how addictive keeping bettas can be and some people here have 100's :D

I would LOVE to be able to have 100's! But the grumbling coming from my husband would be rather unbearable.
My dh does not share the same love of fish that I have.
I've even dreamed of turning the laundry room into a huge betta room with rows and rows of aquariums on every wall. My husband NEVER goes in there. He'd never know!

Ok, how unimaginative is that when my fantasy of being unfaithful to my husband only involves a room full of fish? :sigh

Welcome to TFF, Amber. Just keep telling you hubby about how great your bettas are just like your kids and show him this forum too. If he being mean totally, ignoring him especially in bed until he is surrender. Then negotiate comes.
It sure work!!!
Have fun!

Yeevia, the betta pics in your siggie are amazing! So very beautiful.

Your ceramics is gorgeous too. I clicked on your www. link hoping to see bettas but enjoyed your artwork instead. Very nice work.

Now do you have a betta site too? I want to see more lovely bettas. :)

My betta web is not ready yet. I am waiting for my new powerbook laptop coming this weekend or next weekend. Might drive up to get it because it is in Columbia, MO. This imac don't have dreamweaver so I can't upload anything. Right now, I have been taking pictures and soon I will make my own website about my bettas. Thanks for visiting my other post too and hope you like it as my ceramics too. :)

Thanks Red Devil! I love that motto.

think that was exactly the wave length I was on this week when I ended up taking home two crowntails a few days ago. I just couldn't pass this up! I kept remembered the Mustard Gas I passed up at this lfs before and I've been regretting it ever since. When I saw these guys I just HAD to get them and I figured I'd just deal with the "fallout" later. It was definitely worth whatever complaints I would hear. Funny thing is, there was no fallout! I think he thought maybe this would fix my recent crankiness. I should be cranky more often. :sly:

Oh yeah. Used you own money to buy betta. I don't think he dare to say anything. LOL

   Boy can I relate to that!!! When my hubby said "no more fish tanks" at home, I started them at work. I have one at work now and am getting another to bring in this weekend. :p
