Hi there

Okay, wanted to try my hand at Marine life for a while now, however instead of rushing into things, I have taken my time, read, read, and read some more, then to double check, I read it again :good:

Now I have a spare 6 gallon (27 Litre) tank (which housed shrimp and therefore no meds, copper etc were added) going spare.

I am wanting to go nano reed with this, with a few corals, and maybe a shrimp or crab, obviously no fish due to size!

Here is what I have been led to beleive is how it should be set up, can you confirm or deny :good:

Nano Tank
Tank – 6 Gallon Rimless Fluval Edge 6 Gallon
Sand – Live sand (1.5 lbs per gallon of water) (4-5 kg’s)
Rock – Live rock (1 lb per gallon of water) (2-3 kg)
Salt water : Add salt to water, gravity of 1.023, add heater, add power head, Leave
Water Temperature : 26 Degrees C
Flow Turnover : 15-20 x turnover (500 litre per hour movement)
Lighting : ?????????????????????????? 18w
Water : RO

Equipment and Supplies:
• Hydrometer
• 50w Heater x 2 (one for mixing)
• Power Head
• Live Rock
• Salt
• Lighting
. Test kits

Is there anything you can add please
Or correct me if im wrong

Thank you

Don't get a hydrometer, invest in a refractometer. More accurate in the long run.

What are the goals for the Edge? Do you want corals, or just FOWLR? This'll influence your lighting choices.

Not to be discouraging, especially since, I, myself own 3 picos, but... Picos are hard. Many fail in the first 6 months or even earlier. You have no leeway with a tank this size. If this is your first SW setup, I'd be very careful or go bigger. Edges look really cool, but for the amount of money you're spending on the tank, there are other small tanks running around that look great and are a lot less of a pain to work with.

Ahh I see, Makes sensse really with the drop in water and raises in salinity etc, Darn it, think Ill have to scrap this project. Unfortunately I cant really squeeze another tank into my place. Already Got a 75G Tropical Jungle, 25 G community and a 15g shrimp. Oh well, maybe in a few years then :-(

Your list is well thought out, but refractometer is much better for finding REAL levels of salinity.

6gallon is like Lljma said difficult cuz small changes can effect the entire tank quickly. With no fish, it could be a good project to learn to eventually do a bigger tank WITH fish. Lighting for most corals is a minimum of T5 HO lights or more powerful. Any corals you particularly had in mind?

Not really looked into which corals I would like, was more focussed on getting the live rocks bacteria going and getting the tank fully cycled. didnt think my tank would support any coral life, only a crab or 2
