She hasn't really grown since I got her, and tonight I noticed white poop coming out of her. Normally I don't notice any kind of poop. She acts pretty much normal but one of my ghost shrimp died (he was looking whitish lately so I wasn't surprised) and I could only find half of it in there; one died a week or so ago and I found her shaking it to death (she didn't kill it, she just shook it after it was dead) so it's possible she ate a big part of it. I don't check the tank as much as I did before because I'm battling blue green algae so the light is off a lot of the time.

Anyway the other fish (4 pristella tetras) and the last ghost shrimp look fine along with the 2 snails that are in there (both pond snails). I put some silver in my tank during this water change which caused the tank to be a neon yellow, but aside from that is there something else that I can try treating them with? I have some melafix and jungle fungus meds. I'm limited to pretty much what walmart sells because believe it or not they have a better selection than the lfs. The lfs does have maracyn and maracyn 2 I think.

Neon yellow? You must have a really high ppm.

But,firstly,I'm willing to bet she did kill the shrimp ;) And secondly, why are you treating? Because the fish has white poo? I don't think it's cause for alarm. It's probably just ghost shrimp remnants that she found.

As long as everyone is acting well and eating well there's no need to freak out over poo color. Now if it's white and stringy and trailing behind her for long periods of time..

Sorrell mentioned that she puts the silver in at every water change so I decided to just put it in there. I was thinking 1 tsp per 10 gallons but somehow forgot that this tank is 10g and put in 2 tsp. oops. Thankfully it shouldn't hurt them and I'll probably do another water change in a few days. The jar is 500 ppm.

I thought that all white poo was a problem, not just long. This one wasn't long and looked suspiciously shrimplike. I think I better take that last shrimp out of there or his days are numbered. She's so tiny-I never thought she'd be able to take on a shrimp! And the one tonight was probably 2" long.

Thanks Kelly!

Well crap I thought she said she put in 10 drops per gallon and it was 10 drops per 5 gallon. EEK!! I hope I didn't OD my fish on silver! Will it hurt them?? :-(

No,it shouldn't hurt them a bit but it made me worry for your bio filter with that much. Keep an eye on your stats.

I did another 50% wc last night to bring it down, and we'll do at least 25% twice a week. I'll keep an eye on the levels and I have established gravel and filter media from my other tank if I need it. From here on I'll put in 1 drop per gallon.

As for the shrimp-I tried to catch him last night and then couldn't find him. This am he is now two large betta bites so I guess she has been getting them all along. And here I was worried she wasn't getting enough to eat. So I'll have to figure out other bottom feeders for that tank I guess, or get her her own tank. Might do that but I hate to take her from a 10g and put her in a smaller tank not to mention I don't have anywhere to put a smaller tank. hmph.

what about some corys?
I was planning to put my other two pristellas (which are in the big tank waiting to join the others) in the 10g so that would make it 6 tetras and the betta. My original plan was to have 6 of them, I had 2 and my old 10g leaked so I moved them into the 20g. Then after I got the other 4 it's been one thing after another so I haven't moved them into the small tank yet. I'm afraid that 3 corys added would be too much for that tank. I am getting some MTS for it-would those clean up the bottom a little?
