Hi all

I hope i am not going to bore everyone with to many of these type of posts (i maybe making a lot  ) you have to understand i am new to this and have very little idea of anything that is growing on my live rock.

Right then, i have found a couple of very small (about 3mm) things growing on the rock, it looks like a tiny umbrella that keeps opening and shutting almost continuously, they also appear to have moved, if they have'nt they they are dissapearing and others are growing. Sorry can not get a pic of it yet, its to small. Any ideas?

Thanks

VM

either a small feather duster. or if moving could be an aiptasia since they kinda shut too.

Hi

i have checked out those options and i affaid they are not even close, i will try to decribe it better. There are more in my tank now and they deffinently move around the tank, floating in the current and opening and shutting to seem to gain some control, When they land they just stand on the rock on a tiny stork and open and shut, they stay in the same spot for a few hours, the biggest is still ony about 3 or 4 mm, they are light brown colour.

The people who have seen them in my tank (non fishkeepers) have all decribed it as a jelly fish type thing and to a certain extent i would agree but when they are floating around they do not have tenticles or anything and look more like little button mushrooms.

Would love to find out what they are

Thanks

The colour does not seem very accurate, they are more light grey/brown

Thanks

It is the smallest species of jellyfish; the name escapes me now but I have them in my tank and they are no trouble at all.

Regards

Agreed, a jellyfish species. You may at some point see a population explosion of them if they find a good food source. If that does happen they always over-eat and end up perishing...
