Hi Mods,

Please don't take this as a criticism, or anything, I'm genuinely interested.

Why does this site have a policy of no links or mentions of other aquatic forums?

It's more specific than that, TLM.

Linking to a specialist forum like the shelldwellers forum or a shrimp forum is ok, because the information contained there is usually more detailed and specific than you find here.

However, in other general forums the information there is usually a replication of the information here. There's no benefit to us for there to be links to another forum, where members can get hold of the same information as if they stayed here.

That's the reasoning. One of the other mods who's been around longer can probably give a better answer.

Let me answer your question with a question: would your local Ford dealerships allow fliers for Toyotas to be posted?

In short, it is a question of using our resources in a way that doesn't advertise for what is our competition. Just like the car companies, I am sure that both Ford and Toyota (and GM and Honda, etc.) are at least somewhat happy when a competitor sells a car -- it indicates that the market for cars is strong. But, they aren't going to use any of their resources to help a competitor. Just like we aren't going to allow our server space, our bandwidth, our database, and our time to be used to advertise for another forum. We are happy that other fish forums have active memberships, too. And many of our members are members at others as well. All this is great -- the fish keeping community is stronger by having as many different places to share information as possible. But, our resources need to be used for our forum, and not for others.

Thanks, chaps.
