My parents want to build a fountain in our garden possibly running into a pond. I am trying to convince them to go full out and get a couple of koi carp in there too :good:

What I would like is some photos of either your pond or ones you have seen on the internet and thought "wow". The pond would be about 12ft long by 5ft and the fountain would probably be separate from the pond to the side. Also are there any websites they can go on for some inspirations?

Many thanks!

Here's my picture pond diary ^_^ ;

Where abouts do you live in the world (what sort of climate do you have)?

If you want koi, i'd advise that you make the pond 12ft long by 6ft wide and 4ft as this is the recommended minimum size pond for koi (they are big fish which can grow up to 3ft+ long), you will also need strong filtration as well since they produce a lot of waste and need good water quality.
Goldfish are less demanding and can be keep in a pond only 6ft long by 3ft wide and 3ft deep, they do benefit from filtration, but if the pond is large and understocked then it is not essential- not all varieties of goldfish can be kept outdoors though depending on your climate.

If your climate gets freezing cold during wintertime, then you will have to also take into consideration that it is not good to run fountains in fish ponds during cold winters since they make the water too cold.
