I bought an aqueon deluxe full hood for my 20g. I got 24" and that should fit. Except my rim to my tank is too small!! So the hood just falls through, because it's too short by almost 2cm.

How could I make a safe rim? I think I need it to clip to the sides of the tank because the current rim is so small I don't think it'd be able to safely support anything.

A glazier should be able to cut you a strip of glass pretty cheaply that you could silicone in?

Hmm that is actually a good idea!! I think plexiglass would do the trick instead of glass? I've got a sheet of thick plexi from a previous tank job...

I was thinking maybe a wooden trim that goes around the outside (something that looks nice), bends over the ridge of the tank and juts out on the inside. But that sounds a lot more complicated than your idea. And I like how you won't even notice it's been altered.

If your fixture is designed to sit on top of the glass, have someone make you a full cover and just sit the lamp on top. If it is intended to sit on an edge, with small depressions for proper positioning, have small, 1 cm, pieces made for each end so that the light fixture will hold itself in exactly the right position. Many light strips are a bit too small for the tank they fit because they are intended to sit atop a cover that has a glass piece that is smaller than the tank top. A mostly plastic cover will have a glass window in it that the light strip fits perfectly. I have several light strips like that in my home but can adapt any of them to a tank by simply buying a piece of glass that they can sit on. The glass top fits the tank and the slightly smaller light strip has a surface it can sit on.
