I have a cycling tank, its past the first spike (and of course, my filter just died, so I'm writing it off and going to a water change every two days -- ten gallon tank, divided, three betta)

But, when I was on vacation, one of my more... energetic males decided that he would leap over the divider and pick a fight. He lost.

This is the winning fish -- this is a shot of the more injured side of him. He is eating, he is active.

I have added a little salt to the tank, and I'm going to switch to every other day water changes for a while to promote better water quality while he heals up.

What do you estimate his chances of survival are? This tank was also just recovering from Ich -- It was treated when the fight occured. I need to continue treating as I do not think all of them are quite dead yet. Will this hamper the healing process?

Do you think he will heal at all?

Here is the shot:

Thanks, i appreciate any thoughts. Currently I have cycle, salt and Nox-ich in the tank.

I'll second Kim's suggestion. I think that your increase of water changes is also a great course of action. Cleaner water will better his chances. If he's the winner I can only assume that the fish that lost must me dead...

Yes, Pearl died as a result of his daring jump to get at his neighbor. (Go figure, the runt won.)

I figure the fight had happened a day after I left, which means Mason had been two days in the tank without supervision and managed to do ok.

He has really improved since last night, too. (Posing, strutting and investigating his new neighbor (in a tank next door to the 10 gallon) )

Hes such a good boy. A little trooper.

I'll look into melafix, the store near me, I have discovered, does carry it. Right now, hes with salts, and appears to be doing good, so good for him.

He -does- keep looking at me as if he expects to be rewarded for kicking Pearl into next week, though. x.x Bloody proud of himself, Mason is.

Poor Pearl.

But eh. Accidents happen, I did what I could to prevent something like this from happening, but when the fish sitters are out of town, and its a three day trip, not much I could do. ;/
