Injured Angel - How to Treat?

I have an angel with rather heavily nipped fins, the top fin has started to turn a pinkish red. Is this possible fin rot setting in after the damage?

Melafix was previously recommended, dont have any ( and it being good friday today I couldnt get any, tomorrow afternoon is earliest I can treat with melafix). Also I dont have any usable salt for a salt bath, tomorrow for that as well .

As melafix is derived from tea tree oil do you think dabbing a little tea tree oil on the affected region may help, or do you think it would do more harm?

Only problem with dabbing tea tree oil is it may be in too concentrated a level for the fish to be able to take.
You coudl dilute it heavily but I really dont know
I would think that waiting till tomorrow is the best line

If at all possible, I'd move the angel to a smaller quarantine tank. That gives you a new, fresh tank of water (highest possible water quality is the best treatment) and a smaller size tank to have to dose with meds.

Melafix and super good quality water are your best bets.

I would do a pretty big water change today to help ensure the best quality water while you're waiting to get the Melafix!

If you already have tea tree oil you can dilute it with water to get Melafake - I am sure that Inchworm, one of the mods, posted info on the amounts to use somewhere.

I am currently treating an angel for finrot after nipping and water changes and melafix work a treat!

I would use an internal bacteria med if the fins have gone a pinkish red, is there any marks or fungus on the body of the fish, also is there are red streaks in the fins or red edging to the tail.

Thanks for the replys, I got some melafix today have treated the water and will be doing regular (daily or every other day 10-15%) water changes to help keep the water really clean.

He looking not quite so bad 48 hours later, pretty sure he will make it.
