Well..."lucky me"....

so a co-worker came up to me because they were getting rid of the tank because it had sprung a leak, which they were actually happy about because all of their fish were dying anyways. they said they only had 1 fish left, and want to know if i would take it...

ugh....they told me it was a "small shiny spotted catfish thing"...my response?

so i went by her house, telling her i would check it out, but if it was a young pleco etc the best i could do is take it to a fish store because it definitely couldnt go in any of my tanks...

it was a lonely little peppered cory....she begged me not to take it to a store, saying they would sell it to any shmuck with a tank (unfortunately....she just described herself there! it was a 5 gallon tank!)

so right now I have the little guy chilling in one of my ten gallons with one of my juveline acf (under an inch so no threat yet)

while i wait in the next couple months for this acf to get big enough to be moved in with some other young acf i am growing out for my adult tank....
can i keep this cory solo? i can convert the tank to a cory tank after the fact....but don't want to until i can scape it for cories...

i know cories should always be kept schooling....i have said it many times on here....but since it is so used to being alone anyways, a couple more months won't really hurt him, will it?

blah

I was stuck in the same predicament as you a few weeks ago. I was given a tank and it came with some fish, one of which was a lone cory. I can't really afford to buy more to make a decent shoal, but bit the bullet and went and bought one more. I figured two would be happier than one, and when i have the cash in approx 3 months i will buy 3 more. I found the cory swam with the lone cherry barb when it was on its own, so u might want to watch it with your frogger

Hi Jenste :)

Please take great care of the cory. Even small ACFs can eat fish that are larger than you would think they could. I've known of a case where a friend of mine raised them together until the day the frog just swallowed the then full grown albino cory. Beside that, frogs do tend to pollute the bottom of the tank which is bad for the corys.

buy him a couple of friends, peppered corys are about the cheapest available.im sure he will thank you for it and be much happier to see another cory :hyper:

he now lives with a betta and I do plan on getting some more peppereds once I can find them in a pet store - - albinos are big in this area but as soon as i stumble across some I will snatch up atleast 2 more - - I don't want a full shoal bc I only have room for him in the ten gallon
