I have been looking into getting some nice small plecs, something different, and am checking out various different types.

My favs at the mo are

At the mo other than the obvious zebra, I like the Flash, Pitbull, Angelicus,Starlight, Choc Zeb

I can't find any size or habitual info on the SP4, or SP5 can anyone provide me with a little info?

I have 6 months or so to make my final decision as I don't want to get them before I move house.

SmithRC, Will you still have those columbians in June next year? I do like them, where are you etc. I am interested. Would need to come via train though due to not being a driver.

Sp. 4 and sp. 5 (sp. = species), etc are numbers given instead of L numbers for plecs bred in aquaria (if I remember rightly). For example "Ancistrus sp. 3" is the "common bristlenose" - it doesn't have an L number because it wasn't collected in the wild. You say you want more information on species 4 and species 5, but you don't say of which family they are - without knowing which fish you're talking about, nobody can help. :good:

Ahhh right - well if links you gave were labelled correctly, going on the pics they are the albino bristlenose and the longfin bristlenose, and they are basically tank bred mutations of ancistrus sp. 3 (in fact I believe in the PC guides they are now all on the same page under ancistrus sp. 3) and can be expected to reach similar size and have the same care needs.

Edited to add: SL = standard length (not including tail). Some common bristlenoses have been known to reah larger sizes of up to 6 or 7".

aye up...

What Katy said :)
(the Sp x are to seperate species that cant be traced back to the wild)

Looks like the L129's are sold - I've decided to post them out as I have had someone pester me about them :)
I do however have some Starlight BN fry :)

Smith, thanks for replying.

Are the starlights L182 or L183. I do like the L182, much blacker with the white tipped tail. very sweet. + planet catfish says the BN 183 gets to 25cm!!!. If it is the L182 then pm me a price for 5 and details of their current size age etc and pics if poss. postage and heatpack if poss. missus or myself in every day of the week

As for the Zebs I orig wanted, I think I've just about given up on them now, as the missus isn't keen on me spending that kinda cash on a 'stupid' fish. (Shes portuguese and therefore thinks that £150 is a fortune)

Cheers Andy

Got it wrong way round again. It's the L183 I like (according to Planet Catfish) I see you have 182 from your site. Do you have any others about to breed? the bela Monte's or pitbull's etc. I am after small plecs (under 5"adult, pref under 4").

I am a bit of a vain keeper. Like the pretty contrasting ones like zebs, L183, peppermints etc.
(The other pics that I have seen of pitbulls look different to yours as in they almost look a shiny green sort o colour!!!!)

I might have a look on Plecoaquatics ebay shop cos he's pretty close to me

Thanks for thinking of me. One day I will come through with some new plecs. lol

I'll let you decide - I've been told that not all L183's have the striking white seam and that ours are L183's. however they look more like L182's but without the sizes stated on Planet catsish. we have had ours about 2 years now and they are 5" max and breeding happily.

There is a thread on here with pictures if your interested...

The Juvie is defo L183. Very pretty. Not too sure about the adult though. looks kinda broad to me. Anyway, waht do I know. lol

I still have to June as I am moving May, and then changing from Pea Gravel, lightly planted, to a full on laterite, sand heavily planted CO2 etc.

Once the plants have settled in and rooted (June-July), I will be getting approx 3 small plecs first, before getting 4 Queen Locahes to clear the many snails that will come with the plants, and to keep the snails down.

I'll keep watching your site to see if you have anything for sale that can't wait until June, but I do quite like the L183, so maybe next year.

Thanks for the correspondance Smith and a Merry Christmas to you  :- :drinks:

The adults are the parents of the juvinile ;)
We've just moverd the breeding group into the lounge so they have to settle in again - with other fish now too. they have been spoilt in the past with a 120L tank all to their selves!

Happy xmas to you to :)
